What streaming works in South Korea — 2026 availability list
Updated 2026-04-24
TL;DR
Korea is Asia's most competitive streaming red ocean: 4 local SVODs (Tving, Wavve, Watcha, Coupang Play) + Netflix (5.4M subs, Squid Game made here) + Disney+ + Apple TV+ + Prime Video. Tving and Wavve received FTC merger approval (2025-06); brand architecture being reshaped through end-2026. Watcha is in court rehabilitation + sale process (Samjong KPMG advising). Twitch left Korea on 2024-02-27 over an ISP-fee dispute (replaced by SOOP / Chzzk / YouTube Live). AI tools work broadly.

Tips
When VPNing into Korea, prefer Seoul nodes on Korean ISPs (KT, SK Broadband, LG U+) residential ranges. Tving / Wavve signup needs a Korean phone number (real KR-carrier or some intl numbers + real-name verification) — overseas users usually can't pass. Coupang Play is tied to a Coupang e-commerce account requiring a Korean delivery address. Watcha existing subscriptions still work but new features have stalled. For pure K-drama, Netflix KR + Viki international combo has the best value. After Twitch's exit, Korean streamers concentrate on Chzzk (Naver) and SOOP (formerly AfreecaTV); routing to Twitch via Korea is pointless.
