Binance vs OKX — Where #1 and Top-5 Exchanges Actually Diverge
Updated 2026-04-24
TL;DR
Binance is #1 globally (2024 daily spot volume ~$60B). OKX is solidly top-5 (~$5B daily). Binance.com does not serve US users — US users must use Binance.US (separate company with far fewer pairs). OKX outright blocks US users (exited in 2022 and never returned). Fees: OKX maker 0.08% is slightly below Binance's 0.10%. Regulatory history: Binance reached a $4.3B settlement with US SEC / DOJ / FinCEN in Nov 2023 (founder CZ served 4 months); OKX stayed quieter but also faces ongoing scrutiny. Both run first-party Web3 wallets — OKX Wallet is generally regarded as having slightly better UX.

Verdict
Need the deepest spot / futures / options liquidity, the widest pair list (800+), or the strongest fiat rails → Binance. Need lower maker fees, a more mature Web3 wallet (80+ chains), a better DApp browser, or more proactive Asian compliance → OKX. Neither serves US users (US users go to Binance.US or Coinbase / Kraken). VPN-wise both need VPN in CN / US, but IP-vs-KYC country mismatch trips risk controls — use a residential node and consistent geo. Heavy traders often hold accounts at both for hedging and rate arbitrage.
